Vorlage:Infobox person Gregory Kirchhoff, (born June 18, 1992) is a German screenwriter, director and producer. At the age of 22 he wrote and directed his debut feature, Dusky Paradise[1], which was shot on a mini budget of 20,000 Euros. The film went on to be nominated for various international Awards including the Discovery Award at the 2016 Raindance Film Festival[2]. His second film, German tragic-comedy Ostfriesisch für Anfänger starring Dieter Hallervorden, was initially produced as a TV Movie but got picked up by Universum Film[3] and got a nationwide theatrical release.

Career[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

After spending numerous years abroad, studying in England and Spain, 22-year-old Kirchhoff returned to his hometown Hamburg and wrote his first screenplay, Dusky Paradise. Aware of the difficulties of financing debut features and first-time directors, he found a small team of young, enthusiastic filmmakers, cast the three actors (Kes Baxter, Martin Umbach, Charlotte Krenz) via skype and financed the films production with a crowdfunding campaign in May 2014. 18,000 Pounds were raised on Kickstarter.com[4] and used for the 3 week shoot in Mallorca, Spain. Back in Germany, Kirchhoff had to edit the film himself in order to apply for post-production funding, which made the completion of the film possible.

Dusky Paradise premiered at the International Festival of Independent Cinema PKO Off Camera in Krakow, as part of the main competition "Making Way" on April 29th 2016 and was nominated for the Krakow Film Award. Besides further international nominations, Dusky Paradise got nominated for the Discovery Award for best debut feature at the 2016 Raindance Film Festival and won the Evolutionary Island Award at the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival.

Following Dusky Paradise, Kirchhoff was offered to direct the German tragic-comedy Ostfriesisch für Anfänger starring Dieter Hallervorden. Although it was produced as a TV-movie, the film was acquired by Universum Film and got a nationwide theatrical release. The film premiered at the 2016 Filmfest Hamburg and came to cinemas on October 27th 2016.
