Die Cowboy Junkies sind eine kanadische Rockband. Sie gelten als eine stilbildende Band des Alternative Country, der Elemente von Independent-Rock, Punk, Folk und Country enthält. Die Band formiert sich unter anderem aus den drei Geschwistern Timmins.
Die Band formierte sich 1985 in Toronto, wobei der Name ursprünglich eher zufällig gewählt wurde.
Eines ihrer bekanntesten Alben ist The Trinity Session (1988), aufgenommen am 27. November 1987 mit einem einzigen Mikrofon in der Kirche "Church of Holy Trinity" in Toronto. Neben Eigenkompositionen finden sich darauf u.a. Coverversionen von Sweet Jane (Lou Reed) und I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry (Hank Williams). Das Album gilt als stilprägend für den Alternative Country.
