"Die Erstbesteigung des Berges erfolgte im April 1944 durch Per Wexels und Magne Råum." I think this is a misunderstanding originating from my page http://home.online.no/~vteigen/beerenberg/wexels.html Just because the report is on top of my page with listings of summiting attempts to Beerenberg, doesn't mean that Wexels and Råum were the first to summit. Remember there were lots of expeditions to Jan Mayen before 1944: Whalers, oceanographers, chartographers and fox hunters, and an operating meteorological station from 1921 and up to today (with the exception of a few months in 1940). It is listed on top of my page because this is the earliest recorded account of a summiting that I've yet seen. More research will follow, and hopefully earlier sucsessful summitings. Beerenberg is not that difficult to climb, - I've been there myself! Rgds Vidar
