The Wombats ist eine Alternative-Rockband aus Liverpool, England. Die Band wurde 2003 von Dan Haggis (Schlagzeug), Matthew „Murph“ Murphy (Sänger und Gitarrist) und Tord Øverland Knudsen (Bassist) gegründet.

Geschichte [Bearbeiten]
Haggis, Murphy und Øverland trafen sich 2003 in dem Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, wo sie sich anfreundeten und beschlossen eine Band zu gründen. 2006 wurde ihre Debütsingle Lost in the Post/Party in a Forest (Where's Laura)veröffentlicht. Außerdem veröffentlichte die Band eine EP names Girls, Boys and Marsupials, welches allerdings nur in Japan erhältlich war. 2007 veröffentlichten The Wombats ihr erstes Album für den internationalen Markt namens The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation. Darauf folgte ihre erste Europa Tour. 2008 spielte die Band auf vielen Konzerten und Festivals wie zum Beispiel dem berühmten Glastonbury Festival, oder dem Frequency. Im gleichen Jahr erschien noch die Single Is This Christmas? gefolgt von My Circuitboard City. Ihr zweites Album The Wombats Proudly Present: This Modern Glitch wurde am 25. April 2011 veröffentlicht.
Stil [Bearbeiten]
Die Wombats spielen energiegeladenen Indie-Rock, der am ehesten wie Maxïmo Park, Arctic Monkeys, Weezer oder Pigeon Detectives klingt. Sie wurden beeinflusst von Bands wie Foo Fighters, Interpol und Radiohead.
