The Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of three counties in Wisconsin, anchored by the city of Madison. As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 501,774 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 570,025).[1]

    As of the censusVorlage:GR of 2000, there were 501,774 people, 202,687 households, and 121,171 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 90.26% White, 3.50% African American, 0.32% Native American, 2.99% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.27% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.05% of the population.

    The median income for a household in the MSA was $45,602, and the median income for a family was $55,159. Males had a median income of $35,250 versus $26,322 for females. The per capita income for the MSA was $21,832.

    The Madison–Baraboo Combined Statistical Area (CSA) is made up of four counties. The statistical area includes one metropolitan area and one micropolitan area. As of the 2000 Census, the CSA had a population of 556,999 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 628,947).[2]
