AMERICAN ART 367 (at the end): In strong contrast to all the other suggestions for the completion of the Monument, an interesting project from California, published anonymously in an old number of the American Architect, and here reproduced by permission, afforded abundant and satisfactory recognition of the scale of the structure and made an adequate use of sculpture as a decorative accessory. It was a spirited and poetic composition, correctly set forth in the style of the modern French Renaissance, and might have been submitted in the latest architectural concours of the Ècole des Beaux-Arts.
