Global Formula Racing(short: GFR) is an international cooperation between two race teams. It is based on the BA Racing Team from Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Ravensburg, Germany, and the Beaver Racing Team from Oregon State University (OSU), USA. GFR takes part in the Formula SAE and the EU-based Formula Student programs.
General information

The beginning of this unique global venture was in 2009. In the first Season 2010 the team built two identical race-cars at both universities and laid down a foundation for the design of the following years. The two universities share physical and intellectual resources to create a highly competitive vehicle. Design, manufacturing, and testing occur simultaneously at both schools, over 9 time zones and 5400 miles distance. English as the team language is very important for cross-border communication. The collaboratively developed GFR 2013 design will be used to manufacture a combustion car and a fully electric car. The combustion car will compete in USA events, as well as at Formula Student events across Europe. GFR' s electric car will stay in Europe to participate in Formula Student competitions only. GFR has generous sponsors, who enable them to stay competitive and innovative by their support.
Team Structure
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]Because of the cooperation of Oregon State University and DHBW Ravensburg, good organization is essential. Rather than act as competitors at the events, resources are pooled and the skills of the universities are combined. Design, production and testing will take place at both universities. GFR is divided into teams, including: management, ePowertrain, cPowertrain, Body, Aerodynamic and Suspension. These Teams are split again in different sub-teams, like Management, ePowertrain, cPowertrain, Body, Aerodynamics, Suspension.
Management
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]It is the Management’s task to deal with the coordination of the other sub-teams and the general organization that is necessary for events.
Furthermore this team is responsible for the Marketing. It includes everything concerning the appearances of GFR, including social media. An essential task is looking for sponsors and take care of them.
Another task is Controlling. Detailed lists of costs and parts are required for the competitions.
The Supply Chain Management of GFR is unique in Formula Student. The overall responsibility of Supply Chain Management is to make the process of designing, building, and transporting the cars as efficient as possible. While the majority of the team will be handling the design of individual parts, Supply Chain will be responsible for the entire coordination of the design teams. Another major duty will be to improve the shipping procedures and create a decision making tool to determine shipping logistics.
ePowertrain
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]This team deals with the technology and the mechanical system of the eCar.This includes the design and manufacturing of the Battery, the Motor and Controller and the realisation of the Wiring.
cPowertrain
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]Those team members are responsible for the inner components of the cCar. They take care of the Engine Test Bench, Cooling and the Intake Design.
Body
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]This team is working on the Chassis' Design, the Chassis manufacturing and the Impact Attenuator.
Aerodynamics
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]This team is working on the over all Design of the car, looking for the best aerodynamics possible.
