  • Description: During the planning of the New Britain operation, General Douglas MacArthur, right, in command of the Southwest Pacific Area, confers with Lieutenant General Walter Kreuger, left, Commanding General, Sixth U.S. Army, and Major General Rupertus, whose Marines will assault the island. At such a meeting, Cal Edwin A.
