Hello, and sorry to barge in talking in English, my German is just not up to the task.
If, as [1] seems to confirm, "bewaffnen" means "supply with weapons", it is a mistranslation. In this particular instance, the French word "armer" has the special meaning of "equip" or "ready for a journey", and had nothing to do with weapons. The terms "armer" and "armement" are, even today, commonly used for cargo ships or passenger ship that do not carry any weapons. Hope this helps. Cheers! Rama (Diskussion) 09:43, 13. Mai 2016 (CEST)
