Hab auf en: ebenfalls auf den 3.12. geändert und es wurde mit der Begründung Carr, Fairweather & Priestley Jazz the Rough Guide (1995), Chilton Who's Who of Jazz (1989) and Feather & Gitler The Biographical Dictionary of Jazz (1999) all give 3 January 1919, as do the majority of web sources and The Complete Blue Note Recordings set of 1997. I had not noticed the two sources you cite disagree with this, though Cook's volume is littered with errors. Will have to check the second edition of the Grove when I next have access to it.
