(Sorry for posting this in English.) It is/was a local tradition in South Jutland. Local women could gain status by serving a large number of different cakes, or lose status if they didn't. I think an Alsing once told me that a proper "sønderjysk kaffebord" would include 10-12 different cakes. Or something along those lines. The more the better. This tradition isn't very common anymore. Unlike what this article says, I've never heard about this tradition in any other part of Denmark. In Danish culture, it is considered distictively South Jutlandic. Valentinian 01:40, 5.
