Artikel 2 - Beschreibung des Zweckes

ARTICLE II: STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Allgemeiner Zweck und Ziel der Foundation soll folgendes sein: Die Wikimedia Foundation widmet sich der Entwicklung und Unterhaltung von online einsehbaren (?) freien und mit freien Inhalten versehenen Enzyklopädien, Sammlungen von Zitaten, Textbüchern und anderen Sammlungen von Dokumenten, Informationen und anderen Informationsdatenbanken in allen Sprachen der Welt, welche ohne finanzielle Gegenleistung der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht werden, unter einer Freien Dokumentationslizenz, wie etwa der Free Documentation License der Free Software Foundation Inc., zu finden unter http://www.fsf.org oder ähnlichen Lizenzen, siehe http://www.wikimedia.org.

The general purpose and objectives of the Foundation shall be the following: Wikimedia Foundation is dedicated to the development and maintenance of online free, open content encyclopedias, collections of quotations, textbooks and other collections of documents, information, and other informational databases in all the languages of the world that will be distributed free of charge to the public under a free documentation license such as the Free Documentation License written by the Free Software Foundation Inc. at http://www.fsf.org or similar licensing scheme, see http://www.wikimedia.org.

Das Ziel der Foundation ist es, das weitere Wachstum und die weitere Entwicklung offener Inhalte zu fördern, welche auf der sozialen Software WikiWiki (siehe http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki) basieren, und welche den vollständigen Inhalt der Öffentlichkeit ohne finanzielle Gegenleistung zur Verfügung stellen. Zusätzlich zur Verwaltung der bereits entwickelten mehrsprachlichen Enzyklopädie und Almanachs namens Wikipeda (http://www.wikipedia.org) besteht ein mehrsprachiges Wörterbuch und Thesaurus namens Wictionary, eine Enzyklopädie von Zitaten namens Wikiquote, eine Sammlung von eBüchern, die sich speziell an Studierende richtet (wie Textbücher und kommentierte gemeinfreie Werke) namens Wikibooks und eine Sammlung von Quellentexten namens Wikisource; andere Projekte sind geplant. Die Foundation verwaltet ebenfalls den Betrieb des größtenteils ruhenden Projekts Nupedia, welche nicht wiki-basiert ist, jedoch freie Inhalte enthält.

The goals of the foundation are to encourage the further growth and development of open content, social software WikiWiki-based projects (see http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki) and to provide the full contents of those projects to the public free of charge. In addition to managing the already developed multilingual general encyclopedia and almanac named Wikipedia, (http://www.wikipedia.org) there is a multi-language dictionary and thesaurus named Wiktionary, an encyclopedia of quotations named Wikiquote, a collection of e-book resources aimed specifically toward students (such as textbooks and annotated public domain books) named Wikibooks and a collection of source works called Wikisource; other projects are envisioned. The Foundation also manages the operations of the largely dormant Nupedia project (which is not a wiki but is open content).
