Pengiran Anak Mohamed Yusof (24 June 1948 – 13 December 2004) was a nobleman and formerly a civil servant from Brunei who became the prince consort to Princess Nor'ain in 1967, and brother of Queen Saleha. He had previously served as the head of the Royal Customs and Protocols Department (Jabatan Adat Istiadat Negara), and was a member of several state councils.[1]

Yusof received his early education at the Gurney English School Kuala Lumpur. He would go on to further his studies at the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College and Victoria Institution.[2]

Yusof is born on 24 June 1948, in Kampong Sumbiling Lama, Brunei Town. He began his career as the Deputy Controller in the Department of Immigration and Citizenship combined with the Commissioner of National Registration from 1 April 1970 to 31 August 1971, Department of State Customs and Traditions from 1975 to 1981, and head of Royal Customs and Protocols Department from 1 December 1981 until his retirement on 31 March 2000.[3][4][1]

Later in life, Yusof would be appointed as a member of the Privy Council, Syariah Council, Royal Customs Council and Succession Council. Upon being awarded his cheteria title in 1968, he held responsible for managing and observing royal ceremonies in order to ensure its accordance to tradition and customs.[1]

On 13 December 2004, he passed away at his home in Kampong Telanai. Members of the royal family alongside Abdul Aziz Juned carried out the prayers at his home. Upon completion, his body was brought to and buried at the Kubah Makam Di Raja.[5]

Born on 24 June 1948, Yusof is the son of nobleman Pengiran Anak Mohamed Alam and his wife, Pengiran Anak Besar. His hobbies included playing badminton and association football.[2]

Marriage[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Yusof would marry Princess Nor'ain Bolkiah on 18 August 1967. This made him the brother-in-law of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.[1] As part of the celebration, the couple were paraded around Kampong Ayer and the banks of the Brunei River, with the British High Commissioner Fernley Webber in attendance. On the 27th, the Majlis Kesyukuran ceremony was carried out with the couple receiving gifts from royal family members, at the Department of Religious Affairs's Madrasah Hall.[6]

Yusof was bestowed the cheteria title of Yang Amat Mulia (His Highness) Pengiran Maharaja Lela Sahibul Kahar on 26 July 1968, and earned the following honours;[1]
