Hallo Gerard, Willkommen bei Wikipedia!

Etwas, das mir selbst in Wikipedia schon oft geholfen hat: Sei mutig ;-) Fantasy 20:19, 5. Mär 2004 (CET)

Hello, why are thumbs a bad idea as long you don't use it as Media? thumbs are processed automatically and because of the gray box they look good, don't they? Stern 12:52, 18. Mär 2004 (CET)

I have mentioned this on meta as well but here goes: When a high quality picture that does not fit the screen is behind the thumb like with Persepolis, the enlarged experience is awfull. With the current script the picture is loaded and made to fit on the screen. (the media:picturename:png syntax). GerardM 15:46, 18. Mär 2004 (CET)
Consequently, leave non thumbed pictures be and ask the programmers for a better solution with thumb. GM
Just as an example I "thumbed" your image Bild:Noc krysztalowa.jpg at Reichspogromnacht and – it looks good. Please add the missing licence at the image page or interwiki it with the polish image page. Stern 00:52, 21. Mär 2004 (CET)
The page is called the same in Polish. As to your thumbing excercise try Wildschwein these will not work. The Polish picture is not high res.
It is not nice to do something that is requested not to do. GerardM 23:18, 21. Mär 2004 (CET)
What do you mean by "made to fit the screen"? No matter whether I use media:picture.jpg or image:picture.jpg, your high-res images don't fit the screen and I'll get a scrollbar. -- JeLuF 08:10, 23. Mär 2004 (CET)
It does work for IE Mozilla Firefox/Firebird. I have been told it does not work for the Opera browser. GerardM 12:50, 23. Mär 2004 (CET)
I'm a Mozilla user. I get a scrollbar if the image is larger than my screen. -- JeLuF 19:31, 24. Mär 2004 (CET)
I had been told Mozilla is ok. I have tested it just now with 1.7 beta and 1.6 and you are right it does not work like IE and Firefox/Firebird. Sorry. GerardM 21:19, 24.

-- Mathias Schindler 07:02, 23. Mär 2004 (CET)

I have translated many taxoboxes from English to Dutch and most time is used by transltating the taxons. When the syntax with the msg: is used, the taxons are translated automagically.
When you consider how many wikipedias there are that do not have taxoboxes yet, you can imagine that the benefit outside the language box will be great. The big problem with a lot of good work is that it is repeated again and again. It would be nice if the work is spent on "fun work" and not on "donkey work". GerardM 07:09, 23. Mär 2004 (CET)

NB When I have finished adding the missing taxons, I will start a discussion on meta. I will notify you in the "Portal lebens.. ??".

Hello, I have just seen that you have uploaded this logo "with permission from ESA". However the image description page contains no information about the licence. The only allowed image licences in the German Wikipedia are GNU-FDL and Public Domain (not "fair use"). Unless ESA is willing to release the image under any of these licences, it will have to be deleted. Please clarify the licence of this image. Phrood 09:17, 10. Aug 2005 (CEST)

Kotava[Quelltext bearbeiten]

Hi Gerard. There was a lot of discussion going on in the German Wikipedia, whether or not artificial languages are relevant. In order to avoid further discussion and "domestic disturbance" the criteria for relevance of artificial languages have been made. Unfortunately, it appears that an existing ISO-code is not enough. Secondary literature is needed, or you have to prove that at least five books written by five different authors have been written in Kotava, regularly published and are still available.

I guess you find these criteria very restrictive. And that is true. But consider the alternative: without criteria, the general tendency of exclusionism would prevail anyway (and another compromise didn't seem possible). Criteria should make the admin at least hesitate before he/she presses the delete button, well, they should. --sts (Stephan Schneider) (Tacheles) 13:10, 3. Nov. 2007 (CET)Beantworten

In order to get recognition for ISO-639, there need to be at least fifty publications. So given that Kotava gets recognition, this requirement is implicitly met. GerardM 12:56, 7. Nov. 2007 (CET)Beantworten
I didn't know! That's good news. But you would need to prove that, it is not common knowledge (well, even if it were, some users would ask you to prove it anyway). You can add another criterion to the Relevanzkriterien for auxilary languages, but only after prior discussion. Then this should work. Otherwise, the exclusionists win. Bye - --sts (Stephan Schneider) (Tacheles) 16:47, 7. Nov. 2007 (CET)Beantworten
Read the documentation about getting recognition for a language.. When you cannot find it, ask the people that have dealt with it.

Thanks, GerardM 07:33, 12. Nov. 2007 (CET)Beantworten

Sorry, don't have time. --sts (Stephan Schneider) (Tacheles) 12:56, 12. Nov. 2007 (CET)Beantworten

Bravo![Quelltext bearbeiten]

Das hatte ich mir auch schon mal gedacht, aber nicht gemacht. Jetzt muß es nur noch ein Haijopai «sichten». Kängurutatze (Diskussion) 23:50, 7. Sep. 2012 (CEST)Beantworten

Hallo Gerard[Quelltext bearbeiten]

--Schnabeltassentier (Diskussion) 10:26, 16. Jul. 2017 (CEST)Beantworten

When you insist that something that is wrong remains in the German Wikipedia. Than by all means be wrong, it is fixed in Wikidata. Thanks, GerardM (Diskussion) 10:27, 16. Jul. 2017 (CEST)Beantworten
