Vincent Arthur Smith

Vincent Arthur Smith (* 1848 in Dublin; † 1920) war ein britischer Historiker, Indologe und Kunsthistoriker, der im kolonialen britischen Verwaltungsdienst in Indien tätig war. Er setzte sich früh zur Ruhe, um sich ganz seinem literarischen Schaffen zu widmen.

Als ein Standardwerk galt für lange Zeit seine Oxford History of India (Oxforder Geschichte von Indien), die sich von den frühesten Zeiten bis ins Jahr 1911 erstreckt.

Er verfaßte auch Werke über Asoka, den Buddhistismus buddhistischen Herrscher Indiens und eine Geschichte der schönen Künste in Indien und Ceylon.
