The group was a regular feature on two of the shows that aired over KHOL-TV. One was the "Midwest Jamboree" that aired weekly "live" from 10:30pm to 12 midnight. The show had sponsors such as Siddlers Furniture Outlet and Tom and Jerry's Appliance. It was on the air from the middle 1950s to 1959. [22]

He also told readers of another Jamboree show that he had learned about when he visited with the show's organizer, Hank Jones over in Hammond, Louisiana. That show, The Southeastern Jamboree was held on Saturday nights at the Reimers Auditorium in Hammond.

For a short stint Jack even hosts a Grand Ole Opry type show called the “G.E. Jamboree”.

In those years at KDUB Jack becomes widely known in the West Texas area and plays lots of gigs whenever and wherever he can. Living on the Texas Tech campus with his wife and 2 daughters. [27]

• Barnyard Frolic: "During those fun filled days, Lloyd and the Drifting Hillbillies had a great time performing at such places as "The Old Dominion Barn Dance", "The Renfro Valley Barn Dance", "Red Foley's Ozark Jubilee" and the "Louisana Hayride". In January of 1955 they performed at the "Hillbilly Festival" for WRBL-TV in Columbus, Georgia. In February and March they were in Little Rock, Arkansas at the "Barnyard Frolic" and in December they played "The Big D Jamboree" in Dallas, Texas. Ace Cannon

John „Ace“ Cannon (* 5. Mai 1934 in Grenada (Mississippi)|, Mississippi) ist ein US-amerikanischer Saxophonist. Während seiner Karriere spielte Cannon unter anderem mit der Bill Black Combo und hatte auch eine erfolgreiche Solokarriere.

Leben

Kindheit und Jugend

Cannon wurde 1934 in Grenada geboren und begann mit 10 Jahren, Saxophon zu spielen. Sein Vater spielte professionell Fiddle und Gitarre in der Umgebung von Memphis, Tennessee. Als Jugendlicher spielte Cannon bereits in Clubs und Bars, obwohl er noch zu jung dafür war und war später Mitglied der High School Band. Nachdem er die Memphis State University abbrach, nahm er einen regulären Job bei einer Wasserpumpenfirma an.

Anfänge in Memphis

Nach sechs Jahren gab er diesen Beruf jedoch wieder auf und war ab 1956 Studiomusiker bei Sun Records in Memphis. Neben Martin Willis und Bill Justis war Cannon der einzige Saxophonist, der für Sun arbeitete. „I always checked with 'em every morning, to see if anything was going on,“ („Jeden morgen kam ich, um zu gucken, ob es Arbeit für mich gab“) erinnerte sich Cannon später in einem Interview mit Gary James an diese Zeit. Bis 1959 spielte Cannon auf Sessions von Billy Lee Riley, Jerry Lee Lewis und vielen weiteren.
