Mit bloßem Auge sichtbare Sterne (bis etwa 6,5 mag, bei klarem und mondlosem Himmel ohne [[Lichtverschmutzung]]) sind in der Spalte ''Scheinbare Helligkeit'' hellblau markiert. Die [[Spektralklasse]]n der Sterne sind in der Spalte ''Klasse'' in der [[Spektralklasse#Einteilung|jeweiligen Farbe]] markiert. Diese Farben sind von den üblichen Bezeichnungen für diese Spektralklassen abgeleitet und geben nicht unbedingt die mit dem menschlichen Auge sichtbare Farbe des Sterns wieder. |

Die Liste der nächsten Sterne und Braunen Zwerge umfasst die der Sonne bzw. der Erde nächstgelegenen Sterne und Braunen Zwerge bis zu einer Entfernung von 5 Parsec (16,3 Lichtjahre).
Erläuterung
Mit bloßem Auge sichtbare Sterne (bis etwa 6,5 mag, bei klarem und mondlosem Himmel ohne Lichtverschmutzung) sind in der Spalte Scheinbare Helligkeit hellblau markiert. Die Spektralklassen der Sterne sind in der Spalte Klasse in der jeweiligen Farbe markiert. Diese Farben sind von den üblichen Bezeichnungen für diese Spektralklassen abgeleitet und geben nicht unbedingt die mit dem menschlichen Auge sichtbare Farbe des Sterns wieder.
Braune Zwerge sind in den Spalten System und Stern / Brauner Zwerg braun markiert. Ihre Helligkeitsangabe richtet sich in der Regel nach der Helligkeit des jeweiligen Objekts im J-Band im nahen Infrarot.

Vergangenheit und Zukunft
Scholz' Stern, gegenwärtig rund 20 Lichtjahre entfernt, passierte nach 2015 veröffentlichten Forschungen zufolge vor rund 70.000 Jahren in nur 52.000 AU (0,82 Lichtjahre oder 0,25 Parsec) Abstand die Sonne.[1] Trotz dieser Nähe war er auch zum Zeitpunkt seiner größten Annäherung von der Erde aus wegen seiner geringen scheinbaren Helligkeit von damals nur etwa 10 mag nicht mit bloßem Auge sichtbar.
Der heute 10,3 Lichtjahre entfernte Stern Ross 248 wird in 31.000 Jahren für mehrere Jahrtausende zum nächsten Nachbarstern der Sonne werden und sich in 36.000 Jahren bis zu auf 3,02 Lichtjahre (0,927 Parsec) annähern.[2] In 40.000 Jahren wird Gliese 445, heute noch 17,6 Lichtjahre entfernt, für einige tausend Jahre zum sonnennächsten Stern werden.[2]
Gliese 710 befindet sich gegenwärtig in einer Entfernung von 63,8 Lichtjahren (19,6 Parsec), doch den Messungen des Astrometriesatelliten Hipparcos zufolge wird er in 1,4 Millionen Jahren der Sonne möglicherweise auf weniger als ein Lichtjahr nahe kommen.[3] Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wird Gliese 710, heute mit rund 9,7 mag für das bloße Auge unsichtbar, von der Erde aus ein Stern erster Größe sein, vergleichbar mit Antares.
Die folgenden Sterne haben die Sonne in den letzten zwei Millionen Jahren in mindestens 5,1 Lichtjahren Entfernung passiert oder werden dies in den nächsten zwei Millionen Jahren tun.[3]
