DJ Hell
DJ Hell oder auch Hell (bürgerlicher Name Helmut Josef Geier, * 6. September 1962 in Altenmarkt an der Alz) ist ein deutscher Techno-DJ und Produzent. Hell ist Gründer und Inhaber von International Deejay Gigolos, einer deutschen Plattenfirma für Elektronische Musik.

Laufbahn [Bearbeiten]
Über Hells musikalische Anfänge ist wenig bekannt. Nach eigenen Aussagen fand er sich eines Tages mit Freunden als Instrumentalist unter 1980er-Jahre-Electromusikern wieder. Seit 1983 war er als DJ tätig; erst im Club Libella, Club Troja (Altötting), dann in München im Park Café, im ARG, im Tanzlokal Größenwahn und in verschiedenen anderen Münchner Clubs und Hallen. Über New Wave, EBM, Electro und Hip-Hop gelangte er schließlich zu House und Techno.
Ab 1991 war Hell im Umfeld von Peter Wachas Label Disko B tätig. Seine erste selbstproduzierte Single (My Definition of House Music, auf R&S) wurde ein Clubhit. 1993 zog er nach Berlin und arbeitete für den Plattenladen Hard Wax. Im Jahr 1994 erschien auf Disko B Hells Debütalbum Geteert & gefedert. Später lebte er kurze Zeit in New York und kehrte schließlich nach Bayern zurück.
Neben seiner Arbeit als DJ gründete er 1996 sein Label International Deejay Gigolos. Stilistisch ist die Musik bei Electro, House, Tech- House und Techno einzuordnen, mit Einflüssen von 80er Jahre Pop und Disco. Mit diesem Label haben bekannte Größen der Techno-, House- und Electroszene wie Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Tiga, Fischerspooner, Johannes Heil, Sven Väth, Miss Kittin, Anthony Rother und Laurent Garnier zusammengearbeitet. Hell trug nennenswert zum 80er Jahre Revival der deutschen und internationalen Clubszene bei. Ab 2000 betrieb er über mehrere Jahre die Diskothek Villa im bayerischen Traunstein.
Seit 2005 wohnt Geier wieder in Berlin. Von 2007 bis 2010 legte DJ Hell regelmäßig auf den mittlerweile legendären Aftershow-Partys von Michael Michalsky’s StyleNite während der Berlin Fashion Week auf.
Als DJ tourt Hell seit Jahren durch Städte in allen Teilen der Welt. Privat besitzt Geier eine Lizenz als Fußballtrainer und ist ein wichtiger Sponsor seines Heimatvereins in Altenmarkt.
DJ Hell unterstützt auch die feministische Aktionsgruppe FEMEN.
Clubnächte [Bearbeiten]
DJ Hell gehört, genau wie Sven Väth, zu der Riege bekannter DJs, welche als Headliner die gesamte Clubnacht auflegen. Bei seinen seit 2004 in verschiedenen Münchener Clubs stattfindenden „Bavarian Gigolo Nights“ bestreitet er beispielsweise zumeist ab 2:00 Uhr bis in die Morgenstunden das Programm selbst; die Stilrichtungen können hierbei leicht variieren. Die musikalische Gestaltung fixiert sich nicht an festen Formatvorgaben, sondern wird in der Regel spontan festgelegt. Ende der 1990er und Anfang der 2000er lag der Schwerpunkt eher auf Progressivem Techno mit 80er Jahre- und Disco- Einfluss.
